THE GREAT COMMISSION. (Mathew 28: 19-20, Mark 16:15-18).
Let’s read it from Mark 16:15-16
Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Looking at that scripture, we quickly understand the duty that Jesus Christ left us with before his ascending.
That is, to continue proclaiming what he has done on the cross to the world. The term world there doesn’t mean Planet Earth but it means, the inhabitants of the earth the dwellers of the earth (meaning – people). And to tell you the value of the gospel, He says and preach the gospel to every creature. We are creatures, – meaning that every human being, as long as he/she is created by God, they have the right to hear the gospel.
👉🏼 Hearing the message of the gospel is a human basic need👈🏼
Without it, human race is dead, and is in a deep destruction.
So Jesus Christ has trusted us with that food, that ingredient, that nutrient (the gospel), placing it in your hands, and commanding you to go around look and see if there is anyone who has been created by God. ( God’s property). And as long as he/she is God’s property, she/he deserves to hear the gospel. It is their right (whether they realize it or not).
Let me ask you a question🤔,
Can you measure the weight of the air that you breathe in and the weight of the air that you breathe out everyday? And yet without it, you can’t survive.
If it is that way for an oxygen, that no silver or gold can buy, what about the gospel?
The same God who created oxygen, has given the gospel more value (higher value than any air or life that you know).
Imagine that God has trusted you with such a valuable message, to give his creatures (people) so that they may live and not die.
Let us realize that the Gospel is all about Jesus, it is the message of HIS GLORY. Imagine that Jesus Christ has trusted you with His own life to give his people, that they may also live in Him. And we take that life that precious message and put it under our bed😢, how will we explain ourselves when we are asked,. When it again required from us to give account of our works.
At one point, Jesus Christ, because He wanted His disciples to understand the intense of this great commission; He gives them a parable concerning the measure of the talents, He says
Matthew 25:14-15
[14] For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
[15] And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
👉🏼 This man was smart enough to consider abilities of his servants before he could divide His goods to them👈🏼
We vary in abilities and understandings and God considers that, not to undermine us but simply because He doesn’t want to give us a duty that is beyond our abilities, lest it consume us. With a little ability, He gives you a little portion, so that by that, you may be qualified/trusted for a greater duty. He wants us to prove the best in the little that we have. When it comes to the gospel, don’t undermine your ability
👉🏼 Don’t keep the little ability that you have for yourself, someone needs it to survive👈🏼.
How many lives will you be putting in danger, just because you are afraid🤔🤔
Why is it called a great commission?
Jesus makes it clear when he says go to every creature meaning that every human being has the right to hear the gospel.
👉🏼 Gospel is all about Jesus – It is us introducing Jesus Christ to the world.
This work is the work that is in the heart of Jesus (to make himself known to his people). It is the proclamation of what Jesus Christ had done on the cross; we have to tell people that salvation to mankind was already done by Jesus Christ on the cross and he is now alive calling everyone who believes in Him to have the life that He had already given.
But How will they know?
He needs people who are able to feel His heartbeat, compassion and love to His people. Those that will be ready ( committed) to do what is in His heart.
Those that are ready to give God’s people what they deserve. Faithful workers that are willing to feed these people with such a valuable ingredient The Gospel.
It our duty, to preach the gospel, and make it known to everybody, it doesn’t matter whether the person is a devil worshiper or an atheist, as long as he/she is a human being, he has the right to hear the gospel.
Are we faithful enough to give people their right?
